Edgar Degas was a 19th century French painter and sculptor who embraced modernism in paintings such as At the Races in the Countryside. He incorporated key elements of Impressionism into his work. After losing his sight, Degas began working with pastels, which were easier to see, to make works such as Three Jockeys. He eventually turned to sculpture as his eyesight worsened.
