Scuba diver and artist Jason deCaires Taylor made a splash last year when he created the world’s largest underwater sculpture. The massive work weighs 60 tons. Taylor designed Ocean Atlas for a conservation group in the Bahamas. Over time, the work, made with environmentally friendly materials, will transform into a human-made reef that encourages aquatic plant and animal life. The work’s title refers to the Greek god Atlas, who carries the weight of the world on his shoulders. What do you think the title of this sculpture means?
